Breakfast laid on a hotel balcony, the whole sweep of Plakias bay and the mountains beyond

The Plakias Bay Hotel sits where the long sandy beach ends and the quiet begins. From every balcony: the bay, the mountains, and the villages scattered on their slopes. The sea is fifty metres down the path; the tavernas, shops and little harbour of Plakias are a ten-minute walk along the sand.

Our family

Our parents opened this place in 1984, and we have been here ever since — the same family, a generation further on. We are a music-loving family, so there are instruments in the lobby and a piano; if you play, they are yours for the evening.

Our story

The walk to town

Ten minutes along the sand and you are among the tavernas. Everything else worth seeing is a short drive: the palm gorge at Preveli, the emptier beaches west, the villages up in the hills.

A path follows the sand west for about ten minutes to the village, its tavernas, shops and little harbour, where the bus to Rethymno stops. The road to Preveli and its palm beach leaves to the east.
